Julian enjoys working at the fringe of sane technology design, in the area beyond the 9-18 month window in which market-constrained research and development is able to operate, but nearer to now than the 5-20 year range of prognosticators and futurist.
Julian is a design researcher in the Design Strategic Projects studio at Nokia Design in Los Angeles. He also collaborates with Nicolas Nova and a team of tactical research associates who together form The Near Future Laboratory. The Near Future Laboratory is a research and innovation lab which designs, constructs and analyzes the new, digital interaction rituals.
He has a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in computer-human interaction. He earned his PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz where his doctoral dissertation focused on technology and culture.
