Dr. Drew Hemment is an artist, curator and researcher working in Art, Environment and Social Technologies. He is Director and founder of the award winning FutureEverything festival and the Social Technologies Summit, and is Associate Director of ImaginationLancaster, a major new creative research centre at Lancaster University rated 3rd in the UK for research in art and design.

His work has been covered prominently by New York Times, BBC and NBC, and he was awarded an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica 2008 for Loca: Set To Discoverable, an artwork on pervasive surveillance which premiered in San Jose. He was instrumental in the emergence of the field of Locative Media, and helped to establish the Pervasive and Locative Arts Network (PLAN), funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

He curated the first major art exhibition on mobile and locative media (Mobile Connections, 2004) and the first major art exhibition on social networking (Social Networking Unplugged, 2008). He has pioneered work in mass participation through the Environment 2.0 project (2006-ongoing) working as an artist and weather forecaster. His mobile phone DJ performance on a Baltic cruise during the ISEA2004 art festival was a world first and was covered by the New York Times, and he was a key figure in early UK electronic dance music culture in the late 1980s.

He completed a PhD at Lancaster University in 1999.
