Ethan is an activist, blogger and geek, who lives in western Massachusetts, USA, and works of a variety of technology and media projects. He's co-founder of Global Voices (globalvoicesonline.org), an online citizen media community focused on amplifying voices from the developing world.
Since 2004, Global Voices has featured summaries and translations of the most interesting and important blog posts from the developing world. The large international volunteer community behind Global Voices maintains a set of projects focused on free speech online, journalism and blogging training, and translation of important media.
Ethan's work at Harvard's Berkman Center focuses on the impact of technology on the developing world and the future of international news media. Recently, he's written about the impact of citizen media in the wake of Kenya's disputed elections.
In 2000, Ethan founded Geekcorps, a non-profit technology volunteer corps. Geekcorps pairs skilled volunteers from US and European high tech companies with businesses in emerging nations for one to four month volunteer tours. Geekcorps was based in Accra, Ghana, where Ethan previously lived as a student at the University of Ghana at Legon.
