How to save five million liter fuel per day, at one airport
Airplanes are kerosene guzzlers when they land and take off. By redesigning airports, huge savings can be achieved. The STARRPORT concept is patent pending since 1987 by the American inventor Jim Starry.
- Airplanes land on an incline, leading directly to the top of terminal. Extremely polluting taxiing is not needed. Take-off is on a decline, This saves some 4.000 liters fuel each flight. The Amsterdam airport Schiphol handles about 1.250 flights per day, the savings per year are a whopping 1.600 million liters, at a cost of about 900 million Euro. The 30 biggest airports can save 48 billion litres of kerosene yearly, saving € 27 billion. And of course the environment will fare much better: billions kg less of CO2 to cope with...
