Vodafone Mobile Clicks 2009 selects Dutch finalists

Vodafone revealed the names of the three Dutch finalists of Vodafone Mobile Clicks 2009 on 22 July 2009. The Dutch finalists will go head-to-head with the three (yet to be announced) British finalists for a grand prize of 150,000 euros during the Mobile Clicks finale on 25 September at PICNIC '09 in Amsterdam.

The three Dutch finalists competing for the grand prize are:

  • My Name is E: A service that facilitates connecting people on and offline by collecting their profiles from various social networks - like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter - all in one place. These profiles can then be shared in real life via mobile telephone or a special device, The Connector.
  • MobyPicture: A service that makes it possible to share photos, videos and audio with friends on social networks like Hyves, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter with the push of a button.
  • Layar: A browser that uses augmented reality to allow users get information about about companies and services in the area by looking through the camera of their mobile phone.

Yuri van Geest, Program Manager VMC 2009: "This is the second year that Vodafone Mobile Clicks is being organized. It is inspiring and wonderful to see how this competition has been growing. Not only by the amount of participating countries, but above all in quality, quantity and hunch of the mobile internet start-ups."

The Mobile Clicks jury is very enthusiastic about the quality of the finalists. Marc Fonteijn, jury member and chairman of Mobile Monday Amsterdam: "It's nice to notice that the mobile industry is really in the spotlight now. The year we had a mixture of mature yet simultaneously creative concepts. Unfortunately we could only select three participants for the international finale...Of course we hope for a Dutch winner!"

Vodafone Mobile Clicks is a high profile contest for the best mobile site, service or application. After last year’s success in the Netherlands, Mobile Clicks 2009 was extended to start-ups in the UK as well. In addition, the prize was increased from €100,000 to €150,000! The UK finalists will be announced on 10 August 2009.
