Mark Birbeck is managing director of webBackplane, a British company that devises "User interface solutions for the new web". Mark is an Invited Expert on both the XForms Working Group and the XHTML 2 Working Group, at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Over the years his work there has included devising and proposing RDFa. Mark has been creating software for many years, and his particular interests are the semantic web, and components that help to create dynamic, flexible, user interfaces. He has consulted, given training, spoken at conferences, and contributed to books and articles on these and other topics. He is also heavily involved in the creation of new standards on these themes.
XForms is an XML format for the specification of a data processing model for XML data and user interface(s) for the XML data, such as web forms. XForms was designed to be the next generation of HTML / XHTML forms, but is generic enough that it can also be used in a standalone manner or with presentation languages other than XHTML to describe a user interface and a set of common data manipulation tasks. Mark will - amongst others - use the open source AJAX engine Ubiquity that allows any browser to use XForms to separate logic and programming while creating compelling rich interfaces. XForms makes AJAX easy!
XForms is not only a web standard that promises and delivers smarter, more secure and accessible interfaces. It is the basis for the forms used in Open Document Format, the next generation Office file format that replaces proprietary formats such as .doc, .wpd and .ppt. Kill two birds with one stone, and get on board for this exciting masterclass by one of the industries premier experts on the topic of XForms.
