Obviously, it's ridiculously late to share the results of the visitor evaluations, but still.
If you were kind enough to give us feedback, I’m sure you want some feedback on your feedback!
• First of all, everyone thinks Amsterdam is the best location ever, making our mayor and us happy little bunnies. We weren’t planning on moving anyway, but still.
• A whopping 91.3% of respondents intends to come back for PICNIC08. We’re dancing around the office.
• Over 65% of delegates work in the commercial sector, 35% in the non-profit field. 70% are employed, 30% are freelancing or running their own companies. And 43% are between 25 and 35 years old. We're delirious.
Visitors’ Favourite Speakers and Events
Who were PICNIC’s rock-star speakers, the cream of the crop, our PICNIC heroes? We asked everyone to name a favourite speaker.
And most of them came up with Pablos Holman (or ‘Pablos’, ‘the computer guy’, or ‘that hacker’ –-Mr Paul Holman that is). Runner-up was Dr Sugata Mitra, whose observations on Indian children and computers moved many. Also highly appreciated were Dr David Weinberger, artist Paul Pope, Dick Hardt, Blaise Aguera y Arcas, Stefana Broadbent, Michael Johnson and Ben Cerveny. Congrats to all. And for all the other speakers –- we had more than 80, remember -- you were number 10 on the list.
Visitor's Favourite Partner Events
With more than 70 partner events, seminars and workshops at PICNIC’07, no one could visit them all. Since we couldn’t compare them, we asked delegates to rate those they did visit on a scale of 1 to 10.
High scores aplenty, and the following events all scored above 8.5:
Day of the Medialabs (Mediagilde)
PICNIC Junior (Waag)
Cross Media Games (Ex Machina)
Quality Time (Stifo)
RFID Hackers’ Camp (Mediamatic)
Transforming Media (DVIX/Stage9)
Uncommon Ground (Virtueel Platform)
Creative China (China Desk)
Creative Money Salon (XS4ALL)…
and the absolute winners: three very interactive, focused events that all scored a 9:
the European Bloggers’ Conference (European Journalism Centre)
the Portable Social Networks session (Wakoopa)
Virtual Worlds (EPN).
A huge thank-you to all our partners!
We’ll Do Better!
Of course, we also asked you what PICNIC elements offered room for improvement. We weren’t really surprised by your answers to that one: the way the full programme was communicated on the website (sometimes confusing), and the website and registration process (confusing to the point of being frustrating). ’Nuff said. We’ll do much better this year.
