The CineGrid presentation was interesting in that it gave us a snapshot of exciting new technology, 4K, which is a digital movie standard. We heard about the possibilities: live video conferences between multiple locations in Japan, the U.S., Canada and Amsterdam, production activities on in multiple locations, and new systems to handle audio and video. What was most interesting was Professor DeFanti’s predictions about the future which include: gegapixel wallpaper, 4K streaming video and augmented reality (no special glasses required). Professor DeFanti thinks that in the future, it will be hard to find empty or uncluttered spaces. (Flashbacks to “Minority Report”.)
