Meet Geke, Co-founder and Director, STBY
Geke will be co-facilitating the Service Innovation workshop at the PICNIC Innovation Mash Up.
If you have to pick only one trait or characteristic that distinguishes innovative companies, what would it be?
Curiosity. It is key to successful innovation to keep an open minded attitude and embrace a search for the 'unknown unknows'.
What companies do you most admire and why?
Companies which are brave enough to explore opportunities outside of their comfort zone. It never hurts to invest in exploratory seed projects. You can make strategic decisions later on what to invest in further.
What's the biggest mistake companies are making which is preventing them from innovating effectively?
Being too busy with internal dynamics. Too much focus on internal meetings and politics, settling for incremental changes to propositions, market segments, and technologies...
What is the favourite innovation project that you have worked on? Why does is stand out?
An Open Innovation project we worked on for a large international publisher. They were interested in finding out what else outside of their existing core business they could do for some of their main target groups. They were very open minded about it. We did an exploratory research with lead users in two countries, and in a joint co-creation workshop with a multi-disciplinary client team we identified strategic opportunity areas and generated a series of initial concepts and business cases.
